Okay, so I’ve been itching to see what my S1000RR could really do. I’ve done some track days, but I wanted to test it out in a straight line, you know? So, I decided to hit up a local drag strip and give the quarter-mile a shot.

First things first, I made sure the bike was in good shape. Checked the tire pressure, chain tension, oil level – the whole nine yards. I didn’t want any surprises on the track.
Getting to the strip, I was a little nervous, not gonna lie. I’ve seen some pretty serious machines at these events. After signing up and getting through tech inspection, it was time to stage.
The Launch
- I lined up, trying to get a feel for the starting lights.
- The first run was a bit of a mess. I bogged the launch, didn’t get the RPMs right, and the bike felt sluggish off the line. My time was, well, let’s just say it was embarrassing.
- Second run, I focused more. I revved it up higher, tried to slip the clutch a bit smoother, and bam! Much better launch. The front wheel even came up a little, which felt awesome.
- I kept making small adjustments. Finding that sweet spot between too much throttle and not enough is tricky.
By the end of the day, I had managed to shave off a decent chunk of time. Still not setting any records, but I was happy with the progress. It’s definitely a learning process. You gotta get a feel for how the bike reacts, how to launch it just right, and how to shift quickly and smoothly.
The Results(Not Record Breaking, Just Mine)
My best time of the day ended up, I won’t lie not fast, but I did improve, and I did have fun! The biggest takeaway? Practice makes perfect. I’m already planning my next trip back to the strip to see if I can improve even more.
It’s a rush, that’s for sure. Feeling the power of the S1000RR unleashed in a straight line is something else. If you’ve got one, and you’re curious about what it can do, I definitely recommend giving the quarter-mile a try. Just be prepared to learn and adjust – it’s not as easy as it looks!
