The Start of the Journey

It all began a few months back when I noticed my trusty Road Glide was acting a bit off. Nothing major at first, just little things here and there. The cruise control started playing hide and seek, coming on when it felt like it, which was pretty annoying. Then came the wobble. Oh boy, that wobble! It felt like the bike had a mind of its own, especially at higher speeds. I knew I had to get to the bottom of these issues before they got any worse.

Digging into the Problems

First up, the cruise control. I spent hours reading through forums and watching videos, and it seemed like a common problem with Road Glides. Most folks pointed to the TBW (Throttle-By-Wire) system. I checked the service bulletins, and sure enough, there was one, TT418A, that talked about TBW issues. I followed the steps to diagnose it, checking the connections and making sure everything was tight. It turned out to be a loose connection. Tightened that up, and boom, cruise control was back in action.

Next, the wobble. This one was a real head-scratcher. I dove into the research again, reading everything I could find about Road Glide wobbles. I learned it could be caused by a bunch of different things – steering head bearings, tire pressure, suspension settings, you name it. I started with the basics: checked the tire pressure, made sure the tires were in good shape, and inspected the wheel bearings. Everything seemed fine there.

The Final Touches

After all that work, the bike was running better than ever. But I wanted to take it a step further. I decided to do a full maintenance check – changed the oil, checked the brakes, and made sure all the bolts were tightened to spec. I even cleaned and polished the whole bike, just because it deserved some extra love after all the trouble it had given me.

So, after all that blood, sweat, and tears, my Road Glide is back to its former glory, and then some. The cruise control works flawlessly, the wobble is almost completely gone, and the electrical system is solid. It’s amazing what a little elbow grease and some thorough troubleshooting can do.

It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. I learned a ton about my bike in the process, and now I feel way more confident tackling any issues that might come up in the future.
