Man, it’s been a while since I messed around with the Triumph Daytona 955i, but I finally got some time to get back into the garage. This bike, it’s a classic, but it definitely needed some love. So, I decided to roll up my sleeves and document the whole process. Figured someone out there might find it interesting or even helpful.

First things first, I started by just giving the bike a good once-over. It had been sitting for a bit, and I wanted to see what I was really dealing with. I noticed the suspension felt a bit off. I mean, I know how this bike should handle, and it just wasn’t there. So, I grabbed my laptop and watched some videos on suspension setups on YouTube. There’s this guy, Dave Moss, who knows his stuff, pretty good information.

Then, I decided it was time to get the suspension serviced. I pulled the forks off and took them to a local shop. The rear shock, well, it looked like it had seen better days. I figured it might be easier to just replace it than try to get it rebuilt. I started looking around online for a decent replacement. Found a few options, but nothing that really jumped out at me.

While I was at it, I also thought about some other upgrades. A buddy of mine suggested a quick-action throttle and a dyno remap. Seemed like a good idea to me. I already had a K&N air filter installed, and I’ve been using a full slider kit from Skyking, which I’m pretty happy with.

Next, I wanted to check out the ECU. I remembered this program, TuneECU, that lets you mess around with the maps. So, I hooked up my laptop to the bike and read the map number. I found a website that lists all the OEM tunes, and I was able to figure out which one was loaded and what mods it was for. Pretty handy, actually.

  • Started by inspecting the bike.
  • Watched suspension setup videos.
  • Serviced the forks.
  • Looked for a replacement rear shock.
  • Considered a quick-action throttle and dyno remap.
  • Used TuneECU to check the loaded map.

After that, I reached out to a local tuner. I wanted to see if they had any tunes for an aftermarket exhaust since I’ve got one installed. They said they did, so I’m planning to take the bike in soon. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, my bike is a 2004 model, not a 2001. My bad.

Finding Parts

Finding parts for this bike can be a bit of a pain, but there are some good resources out there. I found a company in Europe, Abba, that makes a stand specifically for the Daytona 955i. They even ship to the US, which is cool. I also heard they make a Sky Lift for the Busa, which might be interesting for some folks.

Honestly, this whole process has been a bit of a learning experience. I’m no expert mechanic, but I enjoy tinkering and figuring things out. It’s satisfying to take something old and make it new again, you know? Plus, I get to share my experience with you guys, which is pretty cool.

So, that’s where I’m at with the Daytona 955i right now. I’ve still got a lot to do, but I’m making progress. I’ll keep you guys updated as I go. Maybe I’ll even make some videos or something. Who knows. Anyway, thanks for reading, and I hope you found this somewhat interesting or helpful. Catch you later!
