Okay, so, Groudon, right? This beast showed up in raids, and I was like, “Alright, time to take this fiery dino down!” I jumped into a few raids and, let me tell you, it wasn’t pretty at first. I got totally wrecked. My usual lineup just wasn’t cutting it.

So, I started doing some digging. I checked out some online guides, asked around in my local Pokemon Go group, and experimented with different teams. It was a bit of a trial-and-error process, you know?
My “Figuring It Out” Phase
- First mistake: I went in heavy on Grass-types, thinking that was the key. Nope. Groudon packs a Fire-type move, and my poor Grass-types were toast. Burnt toast.
- Second try: I focused more on Water-types. Better, but still not perfect. Groudon’s Solar Beam was a real pain, even for my Water-types.
- Lots of experimenting: I mixed and matched different Pokemon, tried different movesets, and basically just threw everything at the wall to see what stuck.
The Winning Formula (Finally!)
After a bunch of tries, I finally figured out a team that worked consistently. The key was a good balance of strong Water-types, with a few other specific Pokemon to handle Groudon’s various attacks.
Here’s what my winning team looked like:
- Kyogre: This was my MVP, no doubt. Waterfall and Hydro Pump are your best friends here. It do the great damage.
- Swampert: Another great Water-type, especially if you can get one with Hydro Cannon. It can be so powerful.
- Feraligatr: Another soild water-type, using it as a good pokemon.
- Gyarados: Waterfall and Hydro Pump, a classic combo. You should try it.
- Vaporeon: The old and easy pokemon to get.
- Mega Blastoise: If you’ve got one, Mega Blastoise just melts Groudon. It’s insane.
The Battle Plan
I went into the raids with this team, and things changed dramatically. I was actually doing some serious damage! The key was to dodge those charged attacks whenever possible, especially Solar Beam. Timing those dodges right made a huge difference.
It still took a few tries, and having a good group of other trainers definitely helped, but I finally started consistently beating Groudon. It felt good, man. Real good. All that experimenting and frustration finally paid off!

So, that’s my Groudon-countering story. Hope it helps you take down that fiery beast! Good luck, and happy raiding!
