I have been wanting to learn more about this guy named Lee Mazzilli, I heard his name a lot recently, so I started digging into his story.
First, I wanted to find out when he was born. I found out that this dude was born on March 25, 1955, in New York. Such an old guy. He’s also a former professional baseball player and coach. It seems like he was pretty good at baseball.
Then I tried to figure out what he did before. It says he was drafted by the New York Mets in 1973. Man, I wasn’t even born then. He must have been really young and good to be drafted that early. It says he was drafted from Abraham Lincoln HS in Brooklyn, so he’s a New York guy through and through.
- Speed Skating Champion: I found out the most surprising fact was that he was a seven-time national youth speedskating champion. Can you believe that? He was great at skating before he was great at baseball. I always thought he just played baseball.
- Playing Career and Later Life: I read that he had a 14-year playing career in baseball. That’s a long time. After he retired from playing, he became a coach, and he also tried acting and business. He’s done a lot of different things.
Next, I looked up what he’s doing now. It looks like he’s semi-retired now, living in Florida with his wife. They’ve been married for 40 years. I thought that’s a long time to be with someone. He has his own family now.
I also saw that someone mentioned about looking at the ’79 all-star game plaque in the Hall of Fame, just to see Lee’s name on it. It made me realize how much he means to some people. It’s like he’s a legend to them. He must be a great man for people to look up to him.
In the end, I learned a lot about Lee Mazzilli. He was a great speed skater, then a baseball player, and he has done a lot of things after baseball. I feel I know him better now, even though he played way before my time. I will continue to learn more about this guy.
