Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get into this whole PGA Golf Certification thing for a while now. I finally decided to just go for it, and let me tell you, it was a bit of a ride.

First things first, I started by digging around online to figure out what I even needed to do. There’s a bunch of different levels and programs, so it was a little overwhelming at first. I spent a good few hours just reading through requirements and trying to understand the whole process.

After I got a basic handle on things, I picked the “PGA Associate Program” – seemed like the right starting point for me. This meant I needed to pass a Playing Ability Test (PAT). Basically, you have to play 36 holes and shoot a certain score to prove you’re not a total hack.

Getting Ready for the PAT

So, I started practicing… a lot. I mean, A LOT. Hitting the driving range, working on my short game, playing rounds whenever I could. My weekends became all about golf. It was tough, no lie, but I was determined to nail this.

  • Practiced my putting like crazy.
  • Worked with a local pro to tweak my swing.
  • Played as many practice rounds as humanly possible.

Then came the PAT itself. Let me tell you, the nerves were real. I signed up, showed up, and… well, I didn’t pass the first time. It was frustrating, but I tried to learn from it. I analyzed my rounds, figured out where I went wrong, and went back to practicing even harder.

The second time around, I was more prepared. I stayed calm, focused on my game, and guess what? I passed! It felt amazing, like all that hard work had finally paid off.

But that was just the beginning. After passing the PAT, you still have to complete a bunch of coursework and work experience. I am currently working through the online courses, it really needs quite some patience. There is still a long way before I really become “certified”.

So, that’s where I’m at right now. It’s a long process, but I’m committed to seeing it through. It’s been a challenge, for sure, but a rewarding one. Will update more of my journey later on!
