Okay, so I decided to give predicting League Two matches a go. It’s a tough league, always throws up surprises, but I thought, why not try and figure it out, eh?

How I Got Started
First off, I didn’t jump straight into complex stats or anything. Nah, I just opened up the current league table. You gotta know who’s sitting where, who’s got momentum, and who’s stuck in a rut. That’s the foundation, simple as that. I spent a bit just looking at the points, the goal difference, the usual stuff.
Then, I looked at recent form. Not just the last game, but maybe the last five or six matches for each team playing. You get a better picture that way. Are they consistently winning, drawing, losing? Are they scoring goals or struggling to find the net? I just made some rough notes on a pad.
Digging a Bit Deeper
After the basics, I tried to find some team news. This part can be tricky, trying to figure out who’s injured or suspended. You check a few club news bits, maybe some fan forums if you have time, just to see if key players might be missing. That stuff really makes a difference, especially in League Two where squads aren’t always massive.
I also had a quick glance at head-to-head records. Sometimes, one team just seems to always do well against another, doesn’t matter about form or league position. It’s not the main thing I look at, but worth considering if a fixture looks tight.
Home and away form is another big one for me. Some teams are lions at home but kittens away, or the other way round. So I specifically checked:

- How does the home team usually perform at their ground?
- How does the away team typically travel?
Again, just scribbled down some thoughts next to the fixtures.
Making the Actual Predictions
Right, this is where I put it all together. It wasn’t very scientific, to be honest. More like weighing up the different bits of info I’d gathered.
I looked at my notes: team A is high in the table, good recent form, playing at home where they are strong, but their main striker might be out. Team B is mid-table, patchy form, but decent away record and beat Team A last time. What do you do?
It’s a mix of the data and a bit of gut feeling. Sometimes a game just screams ‘home win’, other times it feels like a scrappy draw. And there are always a few where you just think, ‘Flip a coin, this could go either way’. I noted down my prediction for each match – home win, away win, or draw.
Wrapping It Up
Once I had a prediction for every game, I typed them up. That’s pretty much it. No fancy algorithms, no insider info, just me spending a bit of time looking at the basics and trying to make an educated guess.

Look, predicting League Two is notoriously hard. Anyone who says they get it right all the time is probably telling porkies. Teams are often evenly matched, form goes out the window, and you get weird results every single week. This is just my process, how I went about it this time. It’s a bit of fun, trying to piece the puzzle together. We’ll see how wrong I am come Saturday evening!
