Alright, so I finally got around to playing Black Hawk Golf Course in Ohio. Been meaning to for ages, and let me tell you, it was a day. Here’s how it all went down.

First things first, booking the tee time. I went online, checked out their website – pretty straightforward. Found a time that worked, clicked through the booking, and bam, done. Easy peasy. Didn’t have any trouble finding a good deal either, which is always a bonus.

Got there about 45 minutes early. Wanted to scope out the pro shop, grab a coffee, you know, get into the zone. The pro shop was decent, not huge, but had all the essentials – balls, tees, gloves, that kinda stuff. Coffee was surprisingly good, too.

Warmed up on the range. It’s a decent range, nothing fancy, but does the job. Hit a few drivers, some irons, tried to get a feel for the day. My swing felt…okay. Not great, not terrible. Just okay.

Teed off on the first hole. It’s a par 4, pretty forgiving. Hit a decent drive, right down the middle. Second shot, landed just short of the green. Chipped it on, two-putted for par. Solid start. Felt good.

The front nine was a bit of a rollercoaster. Had a couple of birdies, a couple of bogeys, even a double bogey thrown in there for good measure. The course itself is pretty well maintained. The fairways were in good shape, the greens were rolling true. Some challenging holes, some easier ones. Good mix. The rough, though, man, that was thick! Lost a couple of balls in there. Gotta keep it straight, folks!

Made the turn, grabbed a hot dog at the halfway house. Standard golf course hot dog – nothing special, but hit the spot. Refueled, ready for the back nine.

The back nine was where things got interesting. The course definitely gets tougher on the back. More water hazards, more trees lining the fairways. Gotta be more strategic with your shots. Had a few blow-up holes, but also managed to string together some pars. Putting was key. The greens were getting faster as the day went on.

One hole in particular sticks out – the par 3 17th. It’s all carry over water. I was nervous as hell. Pulled out my 7-iron, took a deep breath, and swung. Nailed it! Landed about 10 feet from the pin. Made the putt for birdie. That was definitely the highlight of the round.

Finished the round, shot a respectable score (for me, anyway). Didn’t break any records, but had a blast. Went back to the clubhouse, grabbed a beer, and relived the round with my buddies.

Overall, I’d definitely recommend Black Hawk Golf Course. It’s a solid course, well-maintained, challenging but fair. Good value for the money. I’ll definitely be back.

Here are a few takeaways:

  • The course is in good condition.
  • The back nine is tougher than the front nine.
  • Putting is key.
  • Watch out for the rough!
  • The 17th hole is a beast.

So yeah, that was my day at Black Hawk Golf Course. Good times, good golf, good company. Can’t ask for much more than that.
