Okay, so today I decided to dive into the world of rugby league scores. It all started when I was trying to keep up with the games but felt like I was always a step behind. So, I thought, “Why not build something that helps me track the scores myself?”
I kicked things off by searching for a good, reliable source of data. You know, a place where I could get real-time updates without all the fluff. After poking around a bit, I found a few options, but they weren’t exactly what I was looking for.
Digging Deeper
Then it hit me: I could try to find an API! After a few more searches, I found some sports data providers. Bingo!

- Decided to use a Trial Version.
Setting Things Up
I signed up for the trial version. Got my API key, and started reading through their * wasn’t super straightforward, but after a bit of trial and error, I managed to get it working.
The Coding Part
I chose to use Python because it’s pretty easy to work with, especially when dealing with data and APIs. I wrote a simple script to fetch the data from the API. Basically, it just sends a request to the server and gets back a bunch of info about the games, including the scores.
Used a few libraries to help me out:
requests: For making the API calls.json: For handling the data that comes back.
Seeing the Results
After a bit of tweaking, I finally got it pulling in the scores! It was pretty awesome to see the live scores popping up in my console. First try, it wasn’t perfect. There was some extra data I didn’t need, and it looked a bit messy.
So, I spent some time cleaning things up. I filtered out the unnecessary stuff and formatted the output to make it easier to read. Now, it shows just the team names and their scores, which is exactly what I wanted.
What’s Next?
This is just the beginning, though. I’m thinking of adding more features, like maybe showing the game schedule or even some basic stats. Might even turn it into a simple web app so I can check the scores on my phone. Who knows! But for now, I’m pretty happy with my little score-tracking project.
