Alright, guys, let’s talk about my little project with the 2015 Yamaha R1. I wanted to see just how much this beast weighs, you know, get down to the nitty-gritty.

First off, I grabbed my tools and started taking things apart. I focused on the rear wheel first. I removed the sprocket and the cush drive, just to get them out of the equation. I didn’t bother with the brake rotor bolt or the rotor itself for this little experiment.
- I placed the rear wheel on my trusty scale, and guess what? It came in at 11 pounds and 13 ounces. Not too shabby, right?
- Then I got curious about the whole bike’s weight. Some folks online were saying it’s around 439 pounds when it’s all fueled up and ready to go, which is apparently 15 pounds lighter than the older models. Pretty cool if you ask me.
- There’s this fancier version, the R1M, that’s got some carbon fiber parts. But, it actually weighs a bit more, 443 pounds wet, due to some extra electronic goodies.
I read somewhere that the wheelbase is about 55.3 inches, and the whole thing is a little over 2, uh, units long. I didn’t measure it myself, but it sounds about right from just looking at it.
What I Found Out
This 2015 R1 is a pretty light machine, all things considered. Yamaha really did a number on making it lighter and more powerful than the older ones. It’s all about that power-to-weight ratio, you know? Makes it a real blast to ride, from what I hear. I was mainly just messing around with the weights this time, but maybe next time I’ll take it out for a proper spin and see what it can really do.
Anyway, that’s my little adventure with the 2015 Yamaha R1’s weight. Hope you found it interesting! Catch you all later!
