Well, let me tell ya, that 2009 year, it was somethin’ else for them Yankees. That 2009 Yankees roster, oh boy, they were a tough bunch. They were like a well-oiled machine, them boys. Just clobberin’ the ball all over the place. I remember it like it was yesterday.

That Joe Girardi, he was the boss man, the manager. He knew how to handle them fellas. He was a good one, that Girardi. Kept ’em in line, made sure they were playin’ their best. And they did play good, real good that year. They won the whole darn thing. World Series champions, they were! Just like them old-time teams from way back, like in ’23 and ’27, yeah, them too. Lots of years, them Yankees been champions.
They had this fella, Derek Jeter. He was a good one. He could hit that ball a mile. And run like the wind, he could. And he had some good hands, too. You seen him? Oh, he was a popular one, that Jeter. He got more hits than anyone else, ever, for the Yankees, I heard. That’s a lot of hits, ain’t it? More than that Gehrig fella, even. That’s sayin’ somethin’.
- Derek Jeter, he was somethin’.
- That Girardi, good manager.
- They won it all that year, the whole shebang.
And then there was that big fella, Mark Teixeira. He was a strong one. Hit them home runs, he did. Lots of ’em. Thirty-nine, I believe it was. Yep, thirty-nine. That’s a heap of home runs. He sure could wallop that ball. Sent it flyin’ way out there in the stands. He was somethin’ else, that Teixeira.
And don’t forget about that Rodriguez fella, Alex Rodriguez. He could hit, too, I tell ya. Not many could hit like he could. He was one of the best they had. Then there was that Swisher one, Nick Swisher. Remember him? Yeah, he could smack that ball, too. And that Matsui fella, Hideki Matsui, good hitter he was, I tell ya. He had a good year, that Matsui. And another one, Robinson Cano. Lots of fellas on that team could hit, that’s for sure. That 2009 Yankees roster, full of hitters.
They had some other fellas, too. Pitchers, they called ’em. They threw the ball. Tried to keep the other team from hittin’ it. They had some good ones, too, but I don’t recall all their names right now. My memory ain’t what it used to be. But I remember they were good, real good.

That whole team, they were somethin’ special in 2009. They played hard, every game. They wanted to win, and they did. They were a team, ya know? Worked together, played together, won together. That’s what it takes to be a champion. That 2009 Yankees roster, they were a team of champions.
- Teixeira, boy, he could hit them home runs.
- Rodriguez, Swisher, Matsui, and Cano, good hitters they were.
- Pitchers, they were good too, don’t recall their names.
Back in my day, we didn’t have all them fancy stats and numbers. We just watched the game, and we knew who was good and who wasn’t. But I tell ya, you look at them numbers for that 2009 Yankees, and they tell the story. They were good. The best, that year.
Yep, 2009, that was a year to remember for them Yankees. They don’t make ’em like that anymore, I tell ya. That 2009 Yankees roster was one for the ages. You won’t see another team like that for a long time, I reckon. They were somethin’ special, those boys. Somethin’ real special.
They used to have them “M&M Boys” way back when, Mantle and Maris. Big names, they were. But this 2009 team, they were just as good, maybe even better, some might say. Different times, different players, but champions all the same. Them Yankees, they sure know how to put a team together, don’t they?
That 2009 Yankees roster, I remember it well. Good times, good baseball. Those were the days. Just good, old-fashioned baseball. They played hard, they played fair, and they won. That’s all that matters, ain’t it? Winning. And them Yankees, they sure knew how to win in 2009. Yep, they sure did. It was a good year for baseball.
