Alright, so I’ve been messing around with this 2009 CBR1000RR for a while now, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I picked this bike up a few months back. It wasn’t in the worst shape, but it definitely needed some love. The guy I got it from said it had been sitting for a bit, so I knew I was in for some work.

First thing I did was give it a good once-over. Checked the tires, brakes, you know, the usual stuff. Tires were shot, so those had to go. I slapped on some new rubber, and that made a world of difference right there. The brakes were kinda mushy, so I figured a good bleed was in order.

Next up was the engine. I drained the old oil, and man, it was nasty. Looked like it hadn’t been changed in ages. Put in some fresh oil and a new filter, hoping that would do the trick. I pulled the spark plugs, and they were pretty fouled up. Cleaned them as best as I could and put them back in. Then I went ahead and cleaned up and lubed the chain.

  • Drained old oil and replaced with new oil and filter.
  • Cleaned the spark plugs.
  • Lubed and tightened the chain.
  • Replaced tires.
  • Bleed the brakes.

Tried to fire it up, and at first, it didn’t want to start. Kept cranking, and finally, it sputtered to life. It was running rough, though. Real rough. Sounded like it was missing on a cylinder or two. I let it warm up for a bit, hoping it would smooth out, but no luck.

So, I started digging deeper. Checked the fuel lines, made sure everything was getting gas. Everything seemed okay there. I figured it must be the injectors, right? If it was sitting, they were probably pretty dirty.

I decided to just clean the injectors as a first step. Pulled them out, hooked them up to a little rig I made, and ran some cleaner through them. A lot of gunk came out. I was really hopeful after this. Got them back in, crossed my fingers, and hit the starter.

It fired up! And man, it was running smooth. Like, really smooth. No more missing, no more rough idle. Took it for a spin around the block, and it felt great. The new tires made a huge difference, and the brakes felt nice and firm after the bleed.

I’ve been riding it for a few weeks now, and it’s been awesome. It’s got tons of power, handles like a dream, and it’s just a blast to ride. Still a few little things I want to do to it, but for now, I’m just enjoying the ride. It just goes to show that with a little bit of elbow grease, you can bring an old bike back to life.
