So, decided to head out to Gladstone for a bit of golf today. The weather looked decent enough, and I felt like swinging the clubs rather than just sitting around.

Got there, and the place seemed pretty chill. Not too packed, which is always a bonus. Found my way around, didn’t really need to talk much to the starter guy, just sort of nodded and got ready.
Hitting the Range First
I always like to start at the driving range. Gotta get loose, you know? Spent maybe 20 minutes there. Some shots felt okay, others… well, let’s just say the ball didn’t always go where I wanted it to. Had a bit of a slice creeping in again, which is annoying. Just trying to get the feel back.
Out on the Course
Decided against a full 18 holes. Didn’t have that much time, and honestly, just wanted a casual round. Found a nice little loop, figured I’d play maybe nine. Stepped up to the first tee box, took a deep breath, and just swung.
- First few holes were a mixed bag. Hit one decent drive, felt good.
- Then messed up an easy chip. That’s golf, right? One minute you feel like a pro, the next you’re topping the ball.
- Had a couple of pars, which I was happy about.
- Definitely carded a bogey or two… or maybe three. Lost count, wasn’t really keeping strict score.
- There was this one par three over water. Always gets the nerves going a bit. Managed to get it on the green, thankfully. No eagle, not even close, but avoided disaster.
What I Noticed Today
The main thing was just shaking off the rust. Haven’t been out as much lately. My timing felt a bit off, especially with the longer irons. And that slice kept wanting to show up on my drives if I wasn’t careful. Concentrated on trying to keep my swing smooth, not rushing it.

It wasn’t about shooting a record score or anything. It was just about the process: the walk, the swing, trying to hit a good shot, and then doing it all over again on the next hole. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
Finished up feeling alright. Got some fresh air, hit some balls. It beats sitting on the couch. Every time I go out, even for a quick session like this in Gladstone, it’s a good reminder of how tricky but enjoyable this game can be. Need to work on that slice though, definitely.
