Alright, let me tell you about how I started really nailing down train schedules, something I just mentally tag as “g train times.” It wasn’t always this straightforward, you know? For ages, if I needed to catch a train, it felt like a bit of a quest.

- I open up Google Search, or sometimes Google Maps. I found Maps is pretty good if I also want to see the station location or how to get there.
- I type in my journey. Something like “train times London to Manchester” or “Brighton station departures.” I learned to be a bit specific if there are multiple stations in a city, but often it figures it out.
The results are usually super clear. It shows me:
- Departure times
- Arrival times
- How long the journey will take
- Sometimes, even which platform, though I always double-check that at the station!
- And, a really neat thing, it often shows if trains are running late. That’s a lifesaver.
I also noticed that if there are different train operators on a route, it usually shows options from all of them. That’s pretty handy for comparing times or if you have a preference.
What I Really Liked About It
For me, the biggest win was just how quick and easy it became. No more hunting for timetables or wrestling with awkward websites. Just a quick search and bam, information.
I also started using it to plan ahead. If I had an appointment, I could check train times a few days before, see what my options were, and figure out when I needed to leave the house. It took a lot of the guesswork out of it.
Sometimes, I’d just be curious, like “Hmm, wonder what the last train back from the city is on a Saturday?” and I could find out in seconds. It’s small stuff, but it adds up to make life a bit smoother.
Did I ever have any hiccups? Oh, sure, once or twice. Maybe I typed a station name a bit wrong, or there was some unexpected disruption that even Google didn’t catch instantly.
