First things first, I needed to dig into what made AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) so special. Turns out, it was pretty popular back in the late ’90s and early 2000s. People used it to chat with friends, family, you name it. And those abbreviations! “TTYL,” “143,” “A/S/L????” – they were everywhere. It’s funny how those little shortcuts are still around today, even with texting being the main thing now.
So, I started messing around, trying to recreate that AIM vibe. I thought, “What if I could make a simple chat app that feels like AIM?” It wouldn’t be fancy, just something to bring back those memories. I played around with some basic coding stuff, nothing too complicated. Just enough to get some text going back and forth between two people.
