Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this “last champion” idea for a game, and I wanted to share how I plotted out the basic storyline. It’s still rough, but it’s starting to take shape.

Brainstorming the Basics
First, I just started jotting down random ideas. What kind of world is it? Who is this “last champion”? What are they fighting for? I came up with this:
- World: A post-apocalyptic fantasy world. Think magic and technology messed up together, lots of ruins, and scattered settlements.
- Champion: A reluctant hero, maybe someone who doesn’t even want the responsibility. They’re skilled, but maybe not super powerful at the start.
- Conflict: Some big, looming threat. Not just a bad guy, but maybe a force of nature, a spreading corruption, or a dwindling resource.
Fleshing Out the Beginning
Next, I wanted to figure out how the story kicks off. I decided to start with the champion’s ordinary life, before everything goes crazy.
- The Champion’s Life: They live in a small, isolated village. They have a specific skill – maybe hunting, crafting, or something unique to their world.
- The Inciting Incident: Something disrupts their peaceful life. Maybe a raid, a strange discovery, or a plea for help from another settlement.
- The Call to Action: The champion is forced to leave their village, either by circumstance or a sense of duty.
Building the Middle
This is where I’m still working things out, but I wanted to create a sense of rising stakes and growing challenges.
- Journey and Trials:The champion will travel from place, encounter some obstacles and will need to overcome those to reach the end.
- Allies and Enemies: The champion meets other characters along the way. Some will help, some will hinder.
- Discoveries: The champion learns more about the world, the threat, and their own potential. This is where I can drop hints and foreshadowing.
- Setbacks: Things don’t always go smoothly. The champion faces losses and failures, making their ultimate victory more meaningful.
The Climax and Resolution
I have a general idea for the ending, but I’m leaving room for changes as I develop the details.
- Confrontation: The champion finally faces the main threat. This could be a physical battle, a magical showdown, or a test of wits and will.
- Sacrifice: The champion might have to make a tough choice or give something up to succeed.
- Resolution: The threat is dealt with, but maybe not completely eliminated. The world is changed, and the champion’s role in it is different.
It’s not perfect, but it’s a start! I’m excited to see where this goes as I add more details and start actually designing the game mechanics. This simple plotting process helped me to get the idea going. I might totally change things, will see!
