Alright folks, let me tell you about my recent round at Twin Oaks Golf Club in San Marcos. I gotta say, it was a day of ups and downs, a real rollercoaster on the green.

First off, I booked a tee time for a Saturday morning, figured I’d beat the heat. Got there a little early, grabbed a coffee and a breakfast burrito from the pro shop – gotta fuel up, right? Checked in, chatted with the guy behind the counter, seemed friendly enough.
Hit the driving range to warm up. Now, I’m not gonna lie, my swing felt kinda wonky. Topped a few, sliced a couple, but managed to hit a few decent ones to get the blood flowing. Then I spent a few minutes on the putting green, trying to get a feel for the speed. The greens looked pretty fast.
Tee time came, and I was paired with a couple of guys I’d never met before. One was a younger dude, ripped jeans and a fancy driver. The other was an older fella, classic golf attire, looked like he knew his way around a course. We exchanged the usual pleasantries, and then we were off.
The first few holes were…rough. I started with a double bogey, followed by a bogey. Couldn’t seem to find the fairway. My drives were either going left into the trees or right into the hazard. Putting wasn’t much better. Three-putted a couple of times. I was starting to get frustrated.
But I told myself, “Hey, it’s just golf. Relax and enjoy the scenery.” Twin Oaks is actually a pretty course, lots of trees, some water features. It definitely helped to calm me down.

Around the 5th hole, something clicked. I started focusing on my fundamentals – grip, stance, swing plane. And suddenly, the ball started going where I wanted it to go. Hit a nice drive down the middle, followed by a good approach shot onto the green. Sunk the putt for a par. Finally!
The rest of the front nine was much better. I even managed a birdie on the 8th, a par 5. Hit a great drive, followed by a solid fairway wood, and then chipped it close and made the putt. Felt like a pro for a minute there.
We made the turn, grabbed a quick hotdog at the halfway house. The back nine was a bit more challenging. The course got tighter, with more hazards and undulations. But I managed to stay relatively consistent, making pars and the occasional bogey.
The 18th hole is a tough one – a long par 4 with water on the right. I played it safe, hitting an iron off the tee to avoid the water. Then I hit a decent approach shot onto the green, about 20 feet from the hole. I lined up the putt, took a deep breath, and…missed it. Tapped in for a bogey. Oh well.
Finished the round with a score of 88. Not my best, but definitely not my worst. The younger guy in our group shot a 75, the older fella shot an 82. We shook hands, said our goodbyes, and headed back to the clubhouse.

Overall, it was a good day at Twin Oaks. The course was in decent shape, the weather was nice (once the sun came out), and the company was enjoyable. I’ll definitely be back to try and beat my score. Maybe next time I’ll bring my A-game from the start.
- What I learned: Focus on the fundamentals, stay patient, and don’t let the bad shots get you down.
- What I’d do differently: Spend more time on the driving range before the round, and maybe get a lesson from the pro.
Final Thoughts
Twin Oaks Golf Club is a solid course, reasonably priced, and a good challenge for golfers of all skill levels. If you’re in the San Marcos area, I recommend giving it a try. Just remember to bring your patience, and maybe a few extra golf balls.
