So I saw both Scarlet Prism Scale and Violet popping up everywhere last month. Everyone kept arguing about which one’s better for decorating that new crystal thingamajig. Figured I’d grab both and just test ’em myself since nobody gave real answers.

Getting My Hands On ‘Em
First off, I ordered Scarlet online – took forever to arrive, man. Packaging was fancy though, all shiny red box with bubble wrap. Violet? Walked into a local craft store and found it sitting dusty in a corner. Cheap plastic case, barely labeled. Already felt like David vs Goliath vibes.
Setting Up The Test
Pulled out my workspace last Thursday. Laid down:
- Two identical resin tablets (made ’em myself last summer)
- Same brush for applying both colors
- LED lamp for proper lighting
- My phone camera to record results
Important: Cleaned both surfaces with alcohol wipes first. Didn’t want oily fingerprints messing things up.
The Application Showdown
Started with Violet. Swiped it on the left tablet – spread like butter on toast. One smooth layer covered the whole thing. Easy-peasy but kinda… watery? Not bad though.
Then Scarlet Prism. Holy cow. Gloopy texture right out the bottle. Had to push hard with the brush to spread it evenly. Weirdly sticky too – hairs from my brush got stuck twice. Almost rage-quit when a fly landed on it.

Drying Phase Notes
Left both tablets near the window overnight. Violet dried flat as paper by morning. Zero surprises. Scarlet? Still slightly tacky 12 hours later. Saw tiny air bubbles trapped under the surface – probably from my struggle-brushing. Had to blow-dry the damn thing on low heat. Ridiculous.
Final Side-By-Side
Under bright light:
- Violet looked decent – classic purple shine, like grape jelly. Simple but nice.
- Scarlet though… magic. When light hit at angles, rainbows shot everywhere. Tiny sparkles I didn’t notice wet.
But here’s the kicker: flipped them over. Violet held color perfectly on the back. Scarlet showed ugly brush marks and thin spots where I’d fought the thickness. Total inconsistency.
Bottom Line Experience
Honestly? Scarlet’s prettier if you’re taking Instagram shots. But if you actually need to use this stuff daily? Violet’s the winner. Cheaper, dries faster, way less headache. Still keeping Scarlet for special projects though – once I buy a blowtorch to make it behave.
