Just woke up today thinking about that dang injury update everyone keeps asking me about. Matt Manning’s elbow thing has been dragging on, and honestly, I’ve been refreshing tweets and team sites like a madman. Grabbed my third coffee, sat down at the messy desk, and decided I’d better track this properly since y’all keep sliding into my DMs about it.

Where Things Stood Last Week
Right, so last Tuesday, I saw the Tigers’ official note saying he was still shut down from throwing. No bullpens, no light toss, nada. That worried me ’cause usually by now you hear something positive. So I started digging into local Detroit sports radio clips – found one where the host mumbled about “rehab setbacks” but no details. Typical.
My Deep Dive This Morning
Opened five tabs at once: *, Tigers beat reporters’ Twitters, the team’s injury page, and two fan forums. Scrolled for like twenty minutes straight. Saw conflicting stuff as usual:
- One guy claims Manning played catch lightly Sunday behind closed doors
- Beat reporter Susan Slusser shot that down hard – no throwing at all
- Team site still says “resting” with no timetable
Classic mess. Nobody knows jack.
The Phone Call I Made
Got fed up and rang my buddy Dave – works security at Comerica Park. Asked if he’s seen Manning around the complex lately. Dave’s always cagey but he muttered, “Saw him icing that elbow after doing band work yesterday. Didn’t look happy.” Not great news. Then Dave hurried off the phone like he was leaking state secrets. Sigh.

Putting It All Together
So here’s what I’m thinking after all this:
No throwing yet → Probably had a setback weeks ago they ain’t telling us about → Won’t see him until maybe July if we’re lucky. The Tigers are treating this like nuclear codes. My final take? They’re being extra cautious ’cause his delivery puts crazy stress on that elbow, and rushing him back last time blew up in their faces. Still frustrating as hell for fantasy owners though – cough like me cough.
Anyway, that’s where my head’s at today. Gonna check the manager’s presser at 3 PM EST. If I hear anything solid, I’ll yell it from the rooftops… or just tweet it. Probably the latter. Time for more coffee.
