Alright, so I wanted to share something simple today. It’s about a walk I took in Sydney not too long ago. Nothing fancy, just me, my feet, and the city streets for a bit.
I woke up that morning, and things just felt a bit… heavy? You know the feeling. Needed to shake it off. Decided the best way was just to get out and move. No real plan, just put on my shoes and headed out the door. I figured I’d just start walking towards the water, that usually helps clear my head.
Getting Started
Ended up down near the harbour area. It was pretty busy, lots of folks rushing around, tourists snapping pictures, ferries coming and going. The noise was quite something. But I wasn’t really there for the sights, not like a tourist. I just wanted to walk. So I found a path along the water’s edge and just started putting one foot in front of the other.
Didn’t set a fast pace or anything. Just ambled along, really. Let my feet decide where to go next. Passed by some of those big famous landmarks, sure, but I was more interested in just the feeling of walking. Feeling the pavement under my shoes, the slight breeze coming off the water.
What I Noticed
It’s funny what you see when you’re not actually trying to see anything specific.
- Saw a guy struggling to fold up one of those complicated prams. Been there, mate.
- Noticed how the sound changed – loud near the ferry wharves, then quieter as I got closer to the gardens.
- Watched a couple of seagulls fighting over a dropped chip. Classic.
- Just the general mix of people – suits, students, families, travellers. Everyone doing their own thing.
Found a bench after walking for maybe an hour or so. Sat down for a bit. Didn’t pull out my phone or anything. Just sat there, watched the boats bobbing on the water. It’s amazing how just stopping for five minutes can make a difference.
Heading Back
After resting up, I just turned around and started walking back, roughly the way I came. Felt a lot lighter by then. The walk didn’t solve any big problems, obviously, but it did what I needed it to do. It got me out of my own head for a while.
Sometimes that’s all it takes. Just a simple walk. No destination needed, no grand purpose. Just moving. It works for me, anyway. Give it a try next time things feel a bit much.
