Okay guys, today I tried out these super simple rock decorating tricks from Rachel – total beginner stuff but actually kinda fun. Grabbed some smooth river rocks from the yard after last night’s rain washed ’em clean. Let me walk you through my messy kitchen table adventure.

Rock Photo Holders First Attempt
Started with Rachel’s first idea: making rock photo holders. Dug out this chunky flat rock about palm-sized. Tried supergluing a tiny magnet to it – big mistake, glue got all stringy and stuck to my thumb instead. Switched to hot glue gun. Held the magnet down with pliers while blasting glue. Worked! Stuck my niece’s birthday pic on it. Wonky as hell but stands up.
Painted Garden Markers Disaster
Next up: painted plant markers for my sad herb pots. Found pointy rocks that looked like arrowheads. Rachel said acrylic paint – used this old bottle labeled “sun yellow”. Looked like mustard smeared on gravel. Tried writing “basil” with toothpick tip. Letters came out looking like alien code. Covered mistakes with white paint splatter. Looks kinda punk rock now? Threw it in the mint pot anyway.
Glow Stone Pathway Nightmare
Last one: glow-in-the-dark garden path rocks. Mixed glow powder with clear varnish in a yogurt cup. Dipped rocks using barbecue tongs – slippery little suckers kept plopping back in. Got varnish all over the patio tiles. Left them drying on newspapers. Half are blotchy where powder clumped. But tonight? Totally glowed near my tomato plants! Looks like radioactive breadcrumbs.
Honestly? Super janky results but had stupid fun. Spent like $3 on craft glue already had everything else. Rocks are free. Messy hands for two hours. Now I’ve got weird little rock dudes guarding my plants and holding photos crooked. 10/10 would glue fingers together again tomorrow.
