Okay so I had this Pawmi hanging around, right? Cute little electric mouse thing. Wanted to evolve that sucker into Pawmot. Seemed easy enough… until I saw the candy cost. One hundred and twenty-five candies? Seriously? That’s way worse than Pidgey back in the day! Felt like grinding Pidgey nightmares all over again.
Nah, Ain’t Nobody Got Time For That
I wasn’t about to walk hundreds of kilometers for one evolution. Started messing around, remembering old tricks from grinding other Pokémon. Figured Pawmi probably followed similar rules. Here’s what I actually DID:
- Pinap Berries EVERY Single Time: Literally. Every Pawmi I saw. Clicked on it, fed it a Pinap Berry before throwing the ball. Boom. Doubles the candy catch reward. Caught one? Got 6 candies instead of 3. Makes a huge difference fast.
- Made Him My Buddy… Briefly: Okay, truth time. Walking with Pawmi sucked. Candy drops were random and slow. But! I noticed something crucial: Finding a buddy candy also gives XL Candy sometimes! Since Pawmi evolution needs regular AND XL candy, those XL drops while walking mattered. I’d swap him in, walk maybe 1km to find one candy (getting a chance at XL), then swap him back out for someone else.
- Raid Trick (Kind Of): Pawmi isn’t a raid boss. Duh. But guess what? When I caught Pawmi after doing ANY raid, I got Rare Candies too! Did a few easy 1-star raids, snagged the Rare Candies, then dumped them straight into Pawmi. Instant candy boost without catching a single extra one. Felt like cheating, honestly!
- Hatched What I Could: Kept those 2km and 5km eggs hatching. You never know! Pawmi can pop out of eggs. Every hatch is basically 10+ candies for free. Fewer steps than walking it as a buddy constantly.
- Trades Saved My Sanity: Found another trainer also drowning in Pawmi. We started swapping them. Every single trade gives you at least ONE candy. Traded like 20 Pawmi back and forth? Bam, extra 20+ candies almost instantly, plus the transfer candy later. Felt super efficient.
- Transferred Without Mercy: This is key. Caught a low IV Pawmi? Pinap’d it? Got the 6 candy on catch? Immediately sent it to Professor Willow. One extra candy right there. No emotional attachment. Just pure candy grind.
How It Actually Went Down
Focusing hardcore with just Pinap catches and transfers got me maybe 50% of the way in a weekend just playing normally around my neighborhood. Adding those raid Rare Candies? Jumped me another chunk. The buddy swap trick got me 3 XLs I needed without driving me crazy walking him constantly. Then the trade day with my buddy pushed me WAY over the regular candy threshold. Felt amazing seeing that candy count climb so much faster than expected.
The Payoff: Finally hit that magic 125 regular + the XL. Evolved him. Pawmot popped up. Total active “grind” time felt minimal. Mostly just remembering to use Pinaps consistently and leveraging trades/raids. Felt way smarter than just endlessly catching and walking until my phone battery died. Still takes effort, but these tricks cut the pain down by like… 80%? Highly recommend it if you want your electric kangaroo mouse thing without losing your mind!
