So, I’ve been playing Fire Emblem Awakening lately, and man, I got stuck with this Owain unit. You know, the one with the fancy sword moves? I just couldn’t get him leveled up quick enough for battles. Decided to figure it out myself.

Starting Off with Owain
First, I booted up my game save where Owain was still pretty weak. Like level 5 or something. I pulled up an old guide online, but it was all messy and confusing. So I just jumped in. Grabbed Owain from my team list, slapped him into my starting party for a skirmish.
Started by throwing him into easy maps near the castle. Tried to make him fight alone against low-level bandits, but he almost got wiped out. Died twice in a row. Realized, “Nah, that ain’t working.” So I paired him up with Chrom as a backup. That helped a bit—Owain could land hits and build XP slower but safer.
Grinding and Tweaking the Tactics
Then, I focused on grinding. Played through the same map over and over. Picked areas with weaker enemies, like Chapter 3 or something. Made Owain use his personal skill, like that Crit Boost thing, by setting him to attack first from range. Used Support units to shield him—like, Robin would cast spells from behind while Owain took swings. Worked okay for a while.
- Step one: Always position him safely near healers or tanks. Avoid letting enemies gang up on him.
- Step two: Focus on weak foes first. Let him finish off near-death ones to max out XP gains.
- Step three: Upgrade his weapons early. Sold some junk items to buy a better sword—boosted his damage output big time.
But I hit a wall at level 10. Owain wasn’t dodging enough attacks. Restarted the map a few times. Changed his class to Myrmidon, that speed-focused one. Bam, he started dodging and critting like crazy. Leveled him up to 15 in no time after that tweak.
Putting It to the Test in Combat
Finally, I took him to a boss fight. Chapter 8, I think. Had Owain paired with Lucina for extra boosts. Sent him in first to trigger his skill. He critted the boss hard, wiped out half health right away. Then my team mopped up. But messed up the positioning once—Owain got surrounded and almost died again. Learned my lesson: always have an escape route.

After a few more battles, Owain hit level 20. Became a total beast. Soloed a whole group of archers without breaking a sweat. Ended up maxing his stats pretty decently. Whole thing took me a few hours over the weekend.
Overall, it was a rollercoaster. Fun but frustrating at times. I’d say keep grinding in safe spots and pair him wisely. Avoid rushing, or you’ll lose progress. Good luck if you try it—saves a ton of headache later.
