So, the other day, I got this itch, you know? I was thinking about the Orioles, specifically that 2017 season. Don’t ask me why, sometimes these things just pop into your head. I just had to remember who was actually on the team back then. My memory’s not what it used to be for these details.
My Little Digging Process
First thing I did, naturally, was fire up my trusty old laptop. It groans a bit these days, but it gets the job done. I just typed “Orioles 2017 roster” into the search bar. Nothing fancy, no secret databases or anything. Just good old-fashioned searching. A bunch of results popped up, mostly from the big sports news sites, which is what I expected.
I clicked on a couple of ’em. I like to check at least two sources, just in case one’s got a typo or is missing someone. You’d be surprised. So, I started scanning through the names. It was like a little trip down memory lane, for real.
You had your big names on there, of course. Manny Machado – man, he was something else. Adam Jones, always a fan favorite. Chris Davis, Jonathan Schoop. Those guys were the core, or at least a big part of it. I saw Welington Castillo was the catcher, yeah, that sounds right.
Then I got to the pitchers. That’s always where it gets a bit fuzzier for me from year to year unless someone really stood out. I saw names like Kevin Gausman and Dylan Bundy. Ubaldo Jiménez was still there, I think. And Zach Britton, before all the injuries really hit him hard. Man, he was dominant for a stretch.
I wasn’t doing a deep statistical analysis or anything, just wanted a quick refresh. I jotted down a few key guys, just to have it straight in my head. My note-taking was super basic, something like this:

It’s funny, looking at a roster like that. It’s just a list of names, but it brings back a whole season’s worth of feelings. The ups, the downs, the what-ifs. You remember certain games, certain plays. All from just looking up a list!
Anyway, that was my little project for an hour or so. Just satisfying a curiosity. Didn’t build a rocket, didn’t solve world hunger. Just looked up the 2017 Orioles roster. Sometimes, it’s the simple things, right?
