Getting Started
So yeah, woke up super pumped for the Nantes vs Marseille clash last night. Grabbed my usual notebook – that super battered one with the coffee stains – and plopped down in front of the TV. Coffee was non-negotiable, obviously. This was gonna be a proper battle, both teams fighting hard, you know?

What I Actually Did
My system’s simple, honestly. Just watch the game proper hard and scribble notes live. Every single thing that catches my eye. Who’s buzzing? Who looks kinda lost? Who’s doing the dirty work? I jot down key stuff:
- That massive save Lafont made? Saved Nantes’ bacon early on. Big tick.
- Harit? Man was pulling the strings for Marseille, finding passes everywhere. My pen kept circling his name.
- Simon on the wing? Pure terror sprinting down that flank. Marseille defenders hated seeing him coming.
- Clauss’ crosses? Put ’em on a plate sometimes, but then he’d vanish for ages. Bit frustrating.
Felt like Nantes were working harder overall, you know? Running their socks off. Marseille had these flashes of pure skill, especially from Harit and Guendouzi bossing the middle, but then they’d switch off. Really weird to watch.
Rating players is where my head starts spinning a bit. Made myself a simple scale out loud: “Terrible, Bad, Okay, Good, Top.” Sounds silly? Maybe. Helps me though. Watching someone like Balerdi for Marseille… solid mostly, tackles flying in… then BAM, makes one massive mistake that almost gifts Nantes a goal. Had to constantly scratch out numbers, arguing with myself on the page: “Was Guendouzi an 8 or a 7? Man worked his arse off… but missed that sitter!”
Fighting Myself & Finishing Up
Finished the game buzzing. The result felt rough on Nantes – they gave absolutely everything, Marseille just had those moments of quality to nick it. Then came the hard part. Sitting down with my messy notes, trying to make sense of the scribbles. Comparing players is murder. How do you even measure a keeper’s heroic saves against a winger’s terrifying runs? Headache city.
Ended up listing them out, top to bottom. Took ages. Kept changing my mind, thinking about specific moments again. Harit was pure class for Marseille, simple as that. Lafont? Kept Nantes dreaming. For me, they were the standouts.

Here’s the final shouts:
- Nantes: Lafont (Top, obviously), Simon (Worked crazy hard, scared them)
- Marseille: Harit (Ran the show), Guendouzi (Like a little angry pitbull everywhere)
Overall feeling? Nantes got unlucky, worked harder as a team honestly. Marseille just had a couple of proper ballers show up at key times. Rating players is brutal fun, makes you watch every tiny detail. You try staying calm when someone misses an open net though! Bloody hell.
