Okay, so the other day I was digging around for some baseball stats, you know, just killing time. I stumbled upon this player, Manny Sanguillen. Never really heard of him before, but the name sounded kinda cool, so I got curious.
First thing I did was punch his name into my search bar. Boom, tons of results popped up. Turns out, this guy played for the Pirates and the Athletics. Not bad, right?
- Started looking at his batting average, .296, which is pretty decent if you ask me.
- Then I saw he had 1,500 hits. That’s a lot of times on base!
- And 65 home runs? This guy could smack the ball.
I went deeper, found a site that had like, his whole career laid out. Games played, at-bats, all that good stuff. It mentioned he played first base for the Pirates too, nice little detail.
Getting Nerdy with It
I started to get a bit nerdy with it, looking up what they call “hard-hit ball” stats. Apparently, it’s a ball that’s hit at 95 mph or more. Found some stuff about “launch angles” too, between eight and 32 degrees. I’m not sure, I kind of zoning out the specific detail, whatever.
Anyway, I ended up finding this database that had all his stats from his Major League and Minor League days. It was pretty cool to see how his batting average and home runs progressed over the years.
So yeah, that’s my little adventure into the world of Manny Sanguillen. Turns out, he was a solid player with a long career. It’s always fun to discover these guys from back in the day and see what they accomplished. You never know what you’ll find when you start digging into the history of the game.
