Getting Started with the Frame Idea
Alright, let’s talk about this photo prop frame I put together the other day. We had a little get-together planned, you know, nothing too fancy, just friends over. And I thought, wouldn’t it be fun to have one of those big frames people hold up for pictures? Like the ones you see that look like an instant photo or a social media post. Seemed like a laugh.

Gathering the Bits and Pieces
So, first thing, I needed materials. Didn’t want to spend a fortune, obviously. I figured foam board would be the way to go – light enough to hold up, sturdy enough not to flop over immediately. I grabbed:
- A big sheet of white foam board. Found one at the local craft shop.
- A sharp craft knife, like an X-Acto knife. Very important for clean cuts.
- A metal ruler, definitely metal, because a plastic one would get chewed up by the knife.
- A pencil for marking lines.
- Some paint I already had lying around – just some basic acrylics.
- Maybe some letters or decorations? I wasn’t sure yet, decided to see how the frame looked first.
Making the Actual Frame
Okay, the making part. I laid the foam board flat on the floor. Protect your floor, by the way! I used some old cardboard underneath. Measured out the outer rectangle size I wanted. Then, measured the inner rectangle – the hole people would look through. Getting the lines straight was key, so I took my time with the ruler and pencil.
Cutting was the next step. This took a bit of patience. You don’t want to try and cut through the foam board in one go. I did several passes with the craft knife along the ruler. Gentle pressure, follow the line, pass again, a bit deeper. That seemed to work best to avoid ragged edges. Cutting the corners neatly was probably the trickiest bit. Had to be careful not to overshoot the cuts.
Once the middle part was cut out, I had the basic frame shape. Phew! It looked… well, like a white foam frame. A bit plain.
Adding Some Flair
Time to make it look less like a piece of foam board. I decided against making it look like a specific social media post, felt a bit cliché. I just painted it a solid bright color. Used a foam brush, slapped on a couple of coats of blue acrylic paint I had left over from another project. Let it dry completely between coats, which took a while.

After the paint was dry, I thought it still needed something. Found some adhesive foam letters I’d bought ages ago and forgotten about. Spelled out “GOOD TIMES” along the bottom edge. Stuck them on carefully. Simple, but it did the job.
The Finished Product
And that was pretty much it! Stood it up against the wall. Looked decent enough. Not professional quality, mind you, but definitely good enough for a bit of fun at a party. It was light, easy to hold. Total cost was minimal since I used leftover paint and letters.
At the party, people actually really liked it! Everyone was grabbing it, posing, taking silly pictures. It was a good icebreaker too. So yeah, a simple project, took maybe an afternoon if you count drying time, but added a lot of fun. Definitely worth the effort.
