Okay, so I had this idea to get involved in my community, and I stumbled upon this “Guys for Good” thing. Sounded interesting, so I thought, why not give it a shot?

First, I checked out what it was all about. It’s basically a group of guys who get together to network and help out in the community. It is a good way to make some connections, both for work and just in general, and you get to do some good while you’re at it.

So, I decided to jump in. I searched for “Guys for Good” in my city, which is Indianapolis. I found their group and saw they were planning a meet-up soon. It was all about getting to know each other and brainstorming ways to contribute to the city.

I signed up for the event, which was to meet at a local place. I had no idea what to expect. When the day came, I put on a decent shirt, made sure I didn’t smell, and headed over.

When I got there, it was a pretty chill atmosphere. There were maybe 20 other guys, all different ages and from different backgrounds. We started off with some small talk, introducing ourselves, what we do, and why we were there.

After the initial mingling, we got down to business. We talked about some local issues and what we could potentially do. There were a few ideas thrown around:

  • Volunteering at a local food bank.
  • Helping clean up a park.
  • Maybe even organizing a small fundraiser for a local charity.

We decided to start with the food bank. A date was chosen, and we all committed to showing up and lending a hand.

A few weeks later, the day arrived. We all met up at the food bank, ready to work. We spent the morning sorting food, stocking shelves, and just doing whatever the staff needed us to do. It was tiring, but honestly, it felt good to be doing something useful.

After we were done, we all went out to grab some food and drinks. We chatted some more, got to know each other better, and even exchanged contact info. We talked about what to do next, and decided to do something similar every quarter.

My Thoughts

Honestly, the whole experience was better than I expected. I met some cool people, made some connections, and actually felt like I was making a difference, even if it was just a small one. I’m definitely going to keep going to these meet-ups and see where it leads. It’s a win-win, really. I feel good about what I did today, and I am excited about the next event we do!
