Okay folks, grab a drink, this was a journey. I finally went hunting for that electric cat legend, Zeraora, in Scarlet. Kept hearing it was tricky, so figured I’d write down exactly how I did it after banging my head against it. Spoiler: involves a lot of standing around.
Getting Started & Finding the Spot
Right, first things first. I booted up my Switch, loaded my Scarlet save file. My character was chilling right there in Mesagoza. I fast traveled over to the Coastal Plaza in the South Province (Area Six). Felt like a good spot near water. You know where the big rock formation is? That’s the place everyone talks about. I flew down to the beach near it.
I didn’t just walk straight there, though. I decided I needed way more Electric Tera Shards. Remember, Zeraora only appears after you do a Tera Raid. So I spent a solid hour or so grinding 5-star Tera Raids, specifically hunting for ones with an Electric symbol. Smashing those raids got me the shards. You need 50 to even try this thing later. Felt like a grind, but needed it.
The Infamous Thunderstorm Chase
This part? Pure pain. Everyone online said it has to be raining a thunderstorm. Not drizzle, not light rain. Thunder and lightning flashing on screen. So what did I do? I started checking the weather constantly.
How?
- Opened the map.
- Scrolled over my location.
- Looked for the weather icon – needed that little lightning bolt inside a cloud.
Was it storming? Nope. Sunny. Went to poke around Area Zero for a bit, came back out. Still sunny. Tried fast traveling away and back. Still sunny. I swear I repeated this dance – travel, check map, wait, check map – for over two hours real time. Felt like forever. I even set the Switch down, watched some stuff, picked it back up later. FINALLY, later that evening, the map icon showed a thunderstorm! Nearly jumped out of my chair.

The Final Push & Actually Seeing Zeraora
Saw that thunderstorm icon? I practically mashed the A button to fast travel back to the Coastal Plaza fly point. Landed, booked it down to the beach near the big rock. Heart was kinda racing, ngl.
Now came the crucial part. I found the right spot – look for a slightly elevated rocky path near the water with some sparkly crystals. Important detail: I dove right into my Bag.
Here’s what I selected:
- Found all those Electric Tera Shards I grinded earlier.
- Scrolled down to find the item “Electric Tera Shard x50“.
- Selected it.
- Chose the option: “Change Tera Type“.
Didn’t select a Pokémon! This uses the shards at the location. Clicked “OK”. Saw a flash of light – the crystals on the rock pulsed blue, then turned electric yellow. Felt like magic!
Right after that flash, bam! The lightning strike animation happened right in front of me, super loud thunder sound effect too. And poof! There it was – Zeraora. Sparking little guy materialized right on that rock. Honestly looked epic! Just ran straight up to it and pressed A to start the battle like any static encounter. Threw my Master Ball immediately – wasn’t taking any chances with this one after that headache!

And that’s it! Sat there staring at the capture screen for a good minute just soaking it in. Persistence pays off, sometimes painfully slow persistence involving dodgy weather!
