Okay so I wanted to rewatch some 80s classics like MacGyver and Moonlighting this weekend. But when I opened Netflix and other apps, guess what? Nothing. Zip. Nada. They basically pretend anything before 2010 doesn’t exist.
First Stop: My Old Closet
I started digging through dusty boxes like an archaeologist. Found my sister’s New Kids on the Block cassettes and some VHS tapes covered in cobwebs. Thought I struck gold when I saw a tape labeled “Cheers & Alf” – turned out to be home videos of our 1986 Thanksgiving instead. Totally useless except for laughing at my terrible bowl haircut.
Second Try: Local Pawn Shop Adventure
Drove to three pawn shops downtown. First place had nothing but broken karaoke machines. Second spot had DVDs alright… stacks of Sharknado sequels. Got excited at the third place when the guy said “Yeah we got classic TV sections!” Walked over to find Baywatch DVDs. I mean technically 80s? But definitely not what I wanted. Left empty-handed feeling defeated.
The Game Changer: Asking Grandma Tech
Finally called my tech-savvy grandma – she streams more than I do. Told her my 1986 drama drought and she goes “Honey just go special streaming!” No website names or anything just the method: Type exact show name plus year into app stores. Did that with Alf 1986 and bam! Found this obscure app through search. Signed up with throwaway email, paid with virtual card, and suddenly I’m watching season 2 episode 3 in 1080p. Felt like I hacked the system honestly.
Now my weekend looks like microwave popcorn, leg warmers and a cheesy 80s marathon. Worth every minute of that closet digging madness!
