Alright guys, let’s get straight into this Umbreon hunt in Pokémon Shield today. People kept asking about it, and honestly? Took me way too long myself.

How to Catch Umbreon in Shield? Try This Night Time Trick First!

Step 1: Getting Stuck with the First Eevee

First thing first, you gotta find an Eevee. Figured Route 4 was the spot. Jumped on the bike and started sprinting through the grass near Motostoke. Man, that felt slow. Saw tons of other stuff popping up – Skwovets everywhere, the odd Stufful. Actual Eevees felt rarer than finding water in a desert. Wandered for like 20 minutes. Super annoying.

  • Kept running: Up and down Route 4 near Motostoke Riverbank.
  • Saw way too many: Skwovet. Seriously, everywhere.
  • Finally popped up: One lonely Eevee! Got the Ultra Ball ready quick time.

Step 2: Prepping for Umbreon Before Dark

Okay, caught the Eevee. Nice. Named him “Midnight”. Felt right. But catching is only half the battle. Umbreon means night time evolution and friendship. So gotta get friendly. Took Midnight straight into battles.

  • Threw him out first: Made him fight wild weak Pokémon. Every battle counts.
  • Kept him healthy: Used potions when he got low. Don’t want him fainting!
  • Gave him the Soothe Bell: Slapped that on him the second he joined the team. Gotta boost that friendship faster!
  • Ran around like crazy: Just biking in circles near a Pokémon Center. Sounds stupid, works though.

Checked in with the friendship checker lady in Hammerlocke – you know, near the Pokémon Center fountain? She kept saying he was getting happier. Good sign.

Step 3: Waiting for Night? Forget That!

Here’s where everyone messes up. You can’t just sit around waiting for actual night. Your Switch clock messes with the game! My trick? Change the darn system time!

  1. Saved the game: Always save before messing with time.
  2. Hopped out to system settings: Went into the Switch’s main menu.
  3. Turned off internet sync: Super important! Otherwise, it won’t stick.
  4. Manually set the clock: Changed the hours to sometime after 8 PM. Like 9 PM.
  5. Jumped back into Shield: Boom. Instantly dark in the game. Magic!

Step 4: The Moment of Truth

Alright. Midnight’s bouncing around with hearts. Friendship should be maxed. Game time is definitely night. Held my breath… leveled him up in one battle against a random wild Pokémon near Hammerlocke.

Whoa! The evolution animation started! Held my fingers crossed hoping it wasn’t Espeon. Saw that dark glow… then bam! Umbreon! Right there. Yellow rings and everything. Yes!

Used a Moon Ball for the aesthetic. Looked awesome.

Final Takeaway

Forget wandering at midnight IRL. Change your Switch time! Boost friendship fast with battles, the Soothe Bell, and running. Make sure it’s set to night IN-GAME when you level up. Works every time. Saves you hours of real-life waiting. Go get that dark badger already!
