Okay so last weekend I was scrolling through football forums and kept seeing Club León mentioned like crazy. Thought hey why not try their methods with my local team? Grabbed a notebook and went full mad scientist mode.

First step: figuring out their “secret sauce”
Watched like five León matches back-to-back till 3AM. Noticed right away how their forwards kept moving without the ball constantly. Tried sketching their positioning – looked like angry ants chasing sugar crumbs! Made two lists:
- Strikers always making diagonal runs behind defenders
- Midfielders playing one-touch passes like hot potatoes
- Whole team pressing like rabid dogs for 90 minutes
Testing the madness at practice
Told my lads “forget positions today” and forced everyone to swap jerseys. Chaos at first – Tim our keeper tried dribbling past midfield and faceplanted spectacularly! But after 20 mins something clicked. Saw Jamie (normally left back) make this insane overlapping run and cross to Dave who headed it in. Whole team went nuts!
Implemented three León things immediately:
- Pressing drill where if you don’t win ball in 5 seconds, 10 pushups
- Passing exercise in tight spaces with two-touch limit
- Forbidden any back passes during small-sided games
Guys were gasping like fish outta water but laughing their heads off.
Actual match disaster turned miracle
First half against Riverside was brutal. Lost 3-0 trying León tactics. Our captain Mike yelled “This Mexican crap doesn’t work!” But during halftime I showed them León’s comeback stats on my phone. Second half? Absolute fire.

Final score: 3-3 with all goals coming from those exact diagonal runs we practiced. Riverside defenders looked completely lost when our wingbacks suddenly appeared in striker positions!
Biggest surprise? Our slowest player Andy scored twice by timing runs exactly like León’s Víctor Dávila. When I asked how he did it, Andy just grinned: “Saw it on YouTube last night coach.”
So yeah these León methods actually work if you force stubborn Brits to try something new. Just prepare for serious sweating and confused opponents!
