Getting into Holly Figueroa
Alright, let’s talk about Holly Figueroa. It wasn’t like some big plan, you know? I just sort of stumbled onto her stuff. Was digging through some old digital music folders, the kind you forget you even have, probably from like, ten, fifteen years ago?

Found this one track buried in a folder named something like ‘Misc Downloads’. No idea where it came from originally. Played it. It was different, kinda raw. Voice wasn’t super polished like everything you hear now, but it had something real about it. Just guitar and voice mostly, on that first one I heard.
So, I got curious. Did a quick search. Turns out there was a bit more music out there. Spent an afternoon just listening while I was trying to sort out a mess of cables behind my workbench. You know how those things get, like spaghetti monsters back there. Her music was decent background for that kind of frustrating job. Kept me from throwing the whole tangled mess out the window.
- Listened to one album, then another.
- Some songs hit better than others, naturally.
- Found myself humming one tune later that evening.
Here’s the thing though, trying to find more info or even properly buy some of the older stuff was a hassle. It wasn’t like popping onto Spotify and everything’s laid out. Felt like I was back on the old internet, digging through fan pages that haven’t been updated since 2005. Found some forum threads, mostly dead ends.
It reminded me of trying to track down parts for an old motorcycle I used to have. You know there’s people out there who know, who have the bits and pieces, but connecting with them is half the battle. You spend hours searching, send emails into the void, maybe get lucky with one reply.
So yeah, listened for a while. It was a thing for a few weeks. Got a couple of albums sorted out. It’s good stuff, honest. But man, sometimes just finding the things you want to listen to or engage with feels like more work than it should be. Haven’t listened much lately, got pulled into other projects. But yeah, Holly Figueroa. That was my little dive into that corner of music.
