So I had to drive to this address in Smithtown the other day, 2000 Raynors Way. Sounds simple right? Well, not so fast. My GPS took me on this wild goose chase that wasted like 20 minutes. Thought I’d share what actually worked so you don’t do the same stupid stuff I did.

My First Attempt Was a Total Mess
Grabbed my keys around 3 PM thinking “this’ll take 15 minutes tops”. Plugged the address into Google Maps – seemed straightforward. But when I got near, it kept rerouting me down dead-end streets near some industrial park. Saw three other drivers looking just as confused as me, circling like vultures. Finally pulled over near a dumpster to rethink.
This old guy walking his dog saw me looking lost and yelled: “They built that new complex last year! Your phone don’t know the new roads!” Lightbulb moment right there.
What Actually Worked
First, I switched to Apple Maps. Weirdly it handled the new construction better. But the real game-changer? Using landmarks instead of numbers:
- Ignore the first “Raynors Way” sign – that’s the old entrance covered in weeds
- Look for the bright red FedEx depot – it’s directly across from the real entrance
- Turn RIGHT after the dented green mailbox – seriously that mailbox saved me
Cruised past three driveways that looked promising but weren’t. Finally spotted the real thing – had a tiny “2000” sign hidden behind an oak tree. Seriously? Who puts an address sign behind a tree?
Parking Nightmares
Got in and immediately panicked. Place was packed with Amazon vans everywhere. Thought I’d have to park a mile away. Then noticed this small gravel lot behind the building most people miss. Security guard told me “Yeah we keep that for visitors – drivers never check back there”. Slid right in like I owned the place.

Whole trip took me 45 minutes when it should’ve been 15. Felt like an idiot but learned:
- Don’t trust GPS completely near new developments
- Weird landmarks are more reliable than street numbers
- Always look for hidden parking behind buildings
Next time I’m bringing binoculars to spot hidden address signs. Or maybe just teleport. Either would be easier than that circus!
