So, first things first, I had this idea, right? I’m a huge basketball fan, and I’ve always been fascinated by how music and sports just vibe together. Plus, those Beats headphones? They’re everywhere in the NBA. You see LeBron, Harden, Davis – all those big names – they’re always stepping onto the court with those Beats on. It’s like a pre-game ritual. And it got me thinking, why not create something that brings these two worlds together in a cool way? And recently I saw that Dr. Dre’s audio brand signs a global partnership with the basketball league.
I started by gathering some intel. I did a bit of digging online, just to see what’s already out there. Turns out, Angel Reese, that baller from LSU, she gifted custom Beats to her teammates. And not just the women’s team, she hooked up the men’s team too! That’s some serious team spirit right there. It’s cool to see how these headphones have become such a big part of the basketball culture.
Then, I got to work.
- I sketched out a few ideas, trying to capture that dynamic basketball player look.
- I wanted the player to look like he’s in the zone, you know? Focused, ready to take on the game. And of course, he had to have those Beats on.
- I played around with different poses, different angles, until I found something that felt just right.

Next, I used some basic tools I had to make this piece. Nothing too fancy, just stuff you can find at any art store. I wanted it to have that raw, authentic feel, like something you’d see in a street art mural. I started with a simple outline, then slowly built up the details. The player’s muscles, the folds in his jersey, the way the light hits the headphones – I wanted to get all those little things right. And, the player I drew mainly referred to LeBron James. Because he was the first athlete with beats by Dr. Dre headphones. Now everyone has them.
It took a few tries, a lot of erasing and redoing, but eventually, it all came together. The final piece? It’s a slam dunk, if I do say so myself. It’s got that energy, that vibe that I was going for. It’s like the player is about to step onto the court, headphones on, ready to dominate. And those Beats? They’re not just headphones, they’re a statement. They’re part of the culture, part of the game. Nearly two out of every three pairs carried the iconic Beats by Dr. Dre logo.
And you know what the best part is? It’s unique. It’s something I made, something that came from my own head and my own hands. And that’s what I love about creating. You get to take an idea, something that’s just floating around in your mind, and turn it into something real. Something you can see, something you can touch.
