Okay guys, so today I was absolutely pumped to finally get my hands on those “coolest Hot Wheels F1 car sets” everyone’s buzzing about. Seriously, the hype on some forums was insane – “amazing designs,” “must-have,” blah blah. My wallet cried a little, but hey, gotta see for myself, right?

Step 1: The Hunt
First up, finding these things wasn’t exactly a walk in the park. Hit up my usual spots – the big box stores. Target? Nada. Walmart? Zilch. Ended up driving way across town to this random hobby shop someone mentioned online. Bingo! They had one set left. Grabbed it like it was gold, practically ran to the checkout.
Step 2: The Big Reveal (Sort Of)
Got home, ripped open the packaging – man, those clamshells are brutal, nearly lost a finger! Pulled out the cars. Okay, first impression: they look pretty slick. Got that modern F1 look, crazy decals, some fancy metallic paint. Flipped them over. Wheels spun okay, nothing super smooth but decent.
- Red Bull vibes? Yep, close enough.
- Mercedes-ish silver arrow? Present and accounted for.
- Ferrari red? Loud and proud.
Design-wise, I’ll give it to ’em, they got the look down. Standing on the shelf? Yeah, they look “cool.” Pictures? Definitely gonna look good.

Step 3: Reality Check Time
Alright, cool looks are fine, but I needed to see how they actually run. Broke out the ol’ orange track. Slapped a launcher together. First car up… WHOOSH! Okay, fast. Fun! Second car… same deal. Okay, good speed.
But then… the headache started.
- That Merc-style car? Wide as heck. Hit every single wall on the corner track piece. Slam! Bang! Crash! Every. Single. Time.
- Tried switching to a wider loop-de-loop track? Forget it. The Red Bull look-alike barely made it over, felt like watching in slow motion.
- Wanted to race ’em head-to-head? Impossible. Different bases, some wider, some longer, they just didn’t play nice together on the track sections I have.
So yeah, they look amazing standing still. But actually using them on most tracks? Frustrating mess. They roll fine, they launch fast, but navigating any interesting track layout? Disaster.
Step 4: The Disappointing Conclusion

Honestly? I felt kinda let down. Paid a premium for this fancy “set” because everyone was raving about the designs. And don’t get me wrong, sitting in their little display case? They are cool little models.
But here’s the thing: they’re Hot Wheels cars! I expect them to work on Hot Wheels track! Why make a “set” if the cars aren’t really compatible for decent racing or can’t handle basic stunts without crashing constantly? Felt more like little statues that happen to have wheels, not proper Hot Wheels racers.
Total respect for the designer putting the effort into the looks – they nailed the aesthetic. But the practical fun factor? Barely there for me. Ended up putting them on the shelf for display only. Maybe stick with the classic designs if you actually wanna race without banging your head against the wall.
