So today I was all set for my usual Sunday golf practice, right? Woke up at 6am feeling pumped, packed my clubs, dressed in breathable polo shirt – perfect weather when I left home. Drove 45 minutes to the driving range singing along to classic rock, thinking I’d finally nail that tricky 7-iron swing.

Started warming up with putting drills when suddenly dark clouds rolled in like some cheap movie effect. Felt the first cold raindrop smack my forehead while lining up shot #3. Within ten minutes, it was full-on downpour – sideways rain soaking through my supposedly water-resistant jacket instantly.
Here’s how things went downhill:
- Gripping the club became like holding wet soap – my driver slipped clean outta my hands during backswing
- Grass turned into slippery mud causing my left foot to slide during follow-through
- Rainwater kept dripping into my eyes making me blink during crucial shots
- My scorecard dissolved into soggy pulp inside my back pocket
Did I pack rain gloves? Nope. Waterproof shoes? Forget it. But being stubborn me, I kept swinging for another hour shouting “C’mon ball!” each time – just ended up looking like drowned rat making splashing sounds with every step. Ball flight? Pathetic little hops like tired bunny instead of majestic arcs.
The kicker? When lightning flashed nearby driving everyone indoors, this teenage kid walks past my drenched self grinning: “Raining sir?” Like no kidding Sherlock. Felt like screaming but just muttered “Nice weather huh?” through chattering teeth.
Ended up sheltering in clubhouse drinking lukewarm coffee watching weather radar. Lesson learned the hard way: Always check hourly forecast + pack actual rain gear. Better yet – sometimes it’s smarter to just reschedule. Next Sunday forecast says sunny though… already cleaned my rain gloves (bought ’em today!) and waterproof shoes.
