Been getting tons of DMs asking about women’s golf clubs, especially the Wilson Ultra set. Saw ’em online and thought, what the heck? Let me actually hit these things and see if they’re worth the buzz. Grabbed my buddy Sarah who rocks Pings and our friend Mia still swinging her grandma’s old hand-me-downs. Headed straight to the range Tuesday afternoon.

First Look & Setup
Unboxed ’em right there. Damn, they look sleek. Purple and silver – way prettier than my scratched-up Callaways. Lighter too. Felt kinda flimsy though? Barely heavier than a wiffle ball bat. Sarah just wrinkled her nose. “Feels like a toy.” Mia seemed into it. “My old clubs feel like lead pipes compared to these!” Got the 7-iron out first.
Swinging the 7-Iron
Gripped it and ripped it. First swing? Whiffed bad. Thing’s so light my timing felt scrambled. Second shot… sky rocket. Went straight up like a damn firework. Third try leaned back way too much – topped the crap outta the ball. Frustrating start. Took like ten balls just to find a rhythm. Finally connected decent. Ball popped up nice but didn’t go far. Sarah snorted, “Could outdrive that with my pitching wedge.” Mia took a turn. Slapped it clean, decent arc. “Feels smoother than my irons,” she grinned. Hmm.
Trying the Driver
The driver head looks huge – like a grapefruit on a stick. Feels super light in the backswing. Took a mighty swing… felt like hitting air. Thwack. Ball floated. Straight? Yeah. Far? Nah. Maybe 150 yards max. My regular driver eats that for breakfast. Mia’s eyes lit up. She smashed one almost 160. “Holy crap! Never hit it that clean!” Sarah? Barely got hers airborne. “Zero feel. Might as well swing a pool noodle.”
The Harsh Truth
Finished up comparing putters. Mia kept raving about forgiveness when she mishit. Sarah? Stomped off to her bag after shanking a 9-iron. My take?
- For beginners like Mia? Gold. Light weight helps launch. Forgiving on mis-hits. Got her hitting cleaner shots than ever with zero strain.
- For someone like Sarah? Pure garbage. She hated the feel, distance sucked, no control at all. She wouldn’t play ’em for free.
- For me? Like swinging a feather duster. Maybe nice for slow practice swings, but no power. Good for getting friends into golf though.
So… are Wilson Ultra women’s clubs good? Really depends. They ain’t magic. High handicappers? Great starter option. Anyone else? Probably wasting your cash.
