Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this whole “black sports announcers” thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. Started off just poking around, you know, seeing what’s what.
First thing I did was try to get a feel for the landscape. I hit up a bunch of different sources, just to see who’s out there and what they’re doing. Some were easy to find, like the big names you always hear about. Others, not so much. Had to dig a little deeper for those.
Then came the fun part: figuring out what makes these guys tick.
- Started watching a ton of sports. Like, a lot. Not just the games, but the commentary, the pre-game, the post-game, all of it. I wanted to experience it first hand like I was there.
- Then I tried to find a way to see if there were any patterns. I jotted down names, dates, what sports they covered, the whole nine yards.
- After that, I compared notes. Looked for similarities, differences, anything that stood out. You wouldn’t believe some of the stuff I found!
Here’s what I did:
It wasn’t always smooth sailing, I mean, when I find the possible list for a field search is lengthy, I have to manually check them one by one. Sometimes it could take me forever to sort through all the info.
But you know what? It was worth it. I ended up with a pretty good handle on the whole black sports announcer scene. Learned a lot about the history, the challenges, the triumphs, all of that good stuff.

So, yeah, that’s my story. It wasn’t some fancy research project with big words, just me, doing my thing, trying to learn something new, and the interoperability thing directly impacted my workflows.
