Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this old IndyCar thing from 1929. It’s been a wild ride, let me tell you. I got this idea in my head that I wanted to see if I could get a feel for what those old-timey racers felt like. So I started digging.

First off, finding info on these old cars is not exactly easy. But I got lucky and found some old blueprints and some grainy photos online. It was like putting together a puzzle with half the pieces missing. I spent days just trying to figure out what parts went where. It was rough, but I kept at it.
- Started by drawing up some rough sketches, just to get a feel for the dimensions.
- Then I made a basic 3D model on my computer. Nothing fancy, just enough to visualize the thing.
- After that, I started looking for materials. I figured wood would be a good place to start. Easy to work with, you know?
Building this thing was a whole other story. I had to learn how to use some new tools, like a lathe and a bandsaw. Let’s just say there were a few close calls and a lot of sawdust. My garage looked like a beaver’s dream for a while there. I had to find some wheels that were close to the original size, it took a while but I found some that were close enough.
Putting it all together was like some kind of medieval torture. Bolts that didn’t fit, wood that cracked, you name it. I swear, this car fought me every step of the way. But I’m stubborn, so I kept pushing. It was all worth it, though, seeing the main body of the car come together was pretty cool.
Finally, after weeks of work, I had something that looked like a 1929 IndyCar. It wasn’t perfect, not by a long shot, but it was mine. I even managed to rig up a simple steering mechanism. No engine, of course, but hey, you gotta start somewhere, right?
The last step was to paint it. It took ages to figure out what colors were used back in the day, I went with a simple red and white scheme, the colors of the winning car as far as I could tell. It was a ton of work, but sitting in that thing, even if it’s just in my garage, it felt amazing. Like I’d stepped back in time or something.

So, yeah, that’s my 1929 IndyCar story. It was a real pain in the neck, but I learned a ton, and now I’ve got this cool, if slightly janky, piece of racing history in my garage.
Next up? Maybe I’ll try building an engine… or maybe not. We’ll see.
