Okay, so, I’ve been trying to up my golf game lately, specifically working on getting more speed in my swing. It’s been a journey, let me tell you.

First off, I started hitting the gym more. Not just any random workouts, but stuff that’s supposed to help with golf. I focused a lot on core exercises. Think planks, Russian twists, you know, the stuff that makes your abs burn. I figured a strong core is key for a powerful swing, right?

Then I started paying more attention to how I was actually swinging the club. I remembered some advice about the importance of proper wrist hinge and body rotation. So I practiced that. A lot. In front of the mirror, in the backyard, anywhere I could. I felt a bit silly at first, but I kept at it.

  • Tried to get a good grip on the club.
  • Worked on my stance, making sure I was balanced and stable.
  • Focused on rotating my hips during the swing. It felt awkward at first, but I started to get the hang of it.
  • Made sure I was extending my arms fully during the swing.

I also experimented with lighter clubs for a while. The idea was to get used to swinging faster, even if it felt a bit weird at first. I tried to keep my swing smooth and rhythmic, no jerking movements.

Another thing I did was visualization. Before each swing, I closed my eyes and pictured the perfect swing in my head. Sounds a bit new-agey, but I think it helped me develop a clearer idea of what I was aiming for.

There were days when I felt like I was making zero progress. But I kept reminding myself that it takes time and practice. Slowly but surely, I started to notice a difference. My swings felt more powerful, and I was hitting the ball further. It wasn’t a huge jump, but it was enough to keep me motivated.

Improving swing speed takes time

It’s still a work in progress, but I’m definitely seeing some improvement in my swing speed. It’s been a combination of building strength, working on my technique, and just putting in the hours. And you know what? It’s actually been kind of fun. There’s something satisfying about seeing yourself get better at something, even if it’s just a little bit at a time.
