So, I grabbed my laptop, fired up Netflix, and searched for “Starting 5.” There it was, all 10 episodes ready to go. I decided to start from episode one, obviously. I remember seeing some comments saying it’s gonna show a different aspect of Butler and that it’s gonna shed some light on his personal tragedy. So, I’m thinking, “This is gonna be good, and sad at the same time.”
- First few episodes, it was all basketball, you know, the usual stuff. Games, practices, locker room talks. But then, bam! They hit you with the personal stuff.
- They showed Jimmy getting the news about someone close to him passing away. That part was rough, man. Really rough. I mean, to see your favorite player going through something like that, it’s tough. The dude is strong, though, I’ll give him that.
- They interviewed his teammates, coaches, and everyone was talking about how much Jimmy had been through in the past 18 months. It was a lot, I can tell you that. It made me realize that these guys are humans too, not just basketball machines.
I watched the whole series in one go, couldn’t stop. It was that good and also that heartbreaking at the same time. It gave me a whole new perspective on Jimmy Butler, not just as a player but as a person. I mean, I knew he was a tough guy on the court, but this showed a whole different level of toughness.
They even showed some parts about this contract situation he’s in. You know, all the rumors and stuff. He’s 35, and people are wondering if he can still play at a high level. This show makes you think about all that, how much pressure these guys are under. Some are talking about his scoring which is at 17.6, but I don’t think that really matters when you look at what he’s been through, right?
Anyway, after watching the series, I felt like I knew Jimmy Butler a little bit better. I respect the guy even more now. I even read somewhere that his father left when he was just a baby, which explains a lot about his personality.

I also found out that he does have kids, which is cool. It must be tough to balance that with his career and all the personal stuff he’s been dealing with.
