Dominate Red Dead 1 Horse Race: Best Horse and Tactics!

Today, I wanna talk about my little adventure with the horse races in Red Dead Redemption 1. It’s a game I’ve been hooked on lately, and let me tell you, those horse races are something else.

Dominate Red Dead 1 Horse Race: Best Horse and Tactics!

So, first off, I had to get myself a decent horse. I learned pretty quickly that not all horses are created equal. I remember starting out with this one horse, the Infested Ardennais, thinking it looked cool. Turns out, it was the absolute worst! Slow as molasses, no stamina, and got tired real quick. Yeah, not the best choice for racing, I realized.

Then I got my hands on this golden Kentucky Saddler. I got it during one of the Bonnie missions, and man, what a difference! This one could really run. I started practicing, getting the hang of controlling the horse, and learning when to push it and when to let it rest. I even bought some apples to keep its stamina up during the races.

  • Finding the Right Horse: I spent a good amount of time experimenting with different horses. Reading some tips online helped, but nothing beats actually trying them out in the game.
  • Practice Makes Perfect: I raced around the world, not just in official races, but just galloping across the plains, getting a feel for the horse’s movements and how to control its speed.
  • Stamina Management: This was key. I learned that pushing the horse too hard all the time just tires it out. It’s a balance between pushing for speed and letting it recover. Apples and horse pills became my best friends here.

I started entering some local races. Won some, lost some. Each race was a learning experience. I started noticing how other riders would manage their horses, when they’d push and when they’d hold back. It was a bit of a strategy game, not just pure speed.

The Big Races

After getting comfortable with the local races, I decided to try my luck at some of the bigger ones. The competition was tougher, and the courses were more challenging. There were times I got bucked off for pushing my horse too hard. It was frustrating, but I kept at it.

Eventually, I started winning more consistently. I learned to read the courses better, figuring out the best paths to take and where I could really let my horse run. I even started betting on myself, though I usually played it safe with “show” bets. Didn’t make a ton of money, but it was more about the thrill of winning than the cash.

One thing I noticed during all this was that speed and acceleration stats don’t always seem to matter that much. It was more about how you handled the horse and managed its stamina. I saw people winning with horses that weren’t supposed to be the “fastest.”

So yeah, that’s my story with the horse races in Red Dead 1. It was a fun challenge, and it really made me feel like a part of the game’s world. I had to put in the time and effort to get good, and it felt rewarding when it finally paid off. If you’re playing the game, definitely give the horse races a try. They’re a blast!
