So I’ve been job hunting recently, right? Been crashing through interviews like a bull in a china shop. Saw this Adam Sessler interview tips thing floating around and thought: why not? Can’t hurt. Grabbed my laptop and fired up YouTube.

The Deep Dive
Started watching his clips about game dev interviews first. Noticed Adam kept drilling on one thing: storytelling. He says every damn answer needs three parts – situation, action, impact. Wrote that down in my moleskine.
Tried practicing in front of my bathroom mirror right after. Fumbled through explaining that coffee shop job I had in college. Sounded like a bad robot. Recorded myself with my phone camera and cringed hard – caught myself saying “um” like fifteen times in two minutes.
Real World Test Run
Did three mock interviews with friends:
- First one went sideways when Mike asked about team conflicts – I rambled about sports
- Second time focused on STAR method like Adam says – flowed better
- By the third round I was actually stopping to breathe between sentences
Then came the big one – actual interview yesterday at that startup downtown. Used Adam’s trick about answering the unspoken question. When they asked about weaknesses, I told that story about messing up inventory counts at Walmart but creating a double-check system afterward.
What Actually Stuck
Turns out Adam’s simplest advice worked best:

- Pausing before answering – made me look less desperate
- Putting energy behind voice – even in Zoom calls
- Leaning forward when answering passion questions
Got the callback this morning. They offered fifteen grand less than I wanted though. Practiced Adam’s negotiation tactics using my cat as audience. Called them back and said I needed twenty-four hours – sounded professional as hell instead of my usual “uh yeah sure”.
Why trust me? Lost three job offers last year from screwing up final interviews. Bombed so bad at one place I tripped walking out the door. This time? Actually felt in control. Still hate wearing suits though.
