I was planning a quick weekend trip to New York last month, and I gotta say, it was driving me crazy trying to find the closest subway stops near all those popular places. You know how it is – the city’s huge, and I didn’t want to waste time wandering around. So I decided to tackle it head-on and write it all down.
Getting My List Together
First off, I sat down at my kitchen table one morning and scribbled out the hot spots I really wanted to hit. I was thinking Times Square for the bright lights, Central Park for a chill walk, Empire State Building for that epic view, and the Statue of Liberty ferry because, well, it’s a classic. Then I grabbed my laptop and just started typing away on Google Maps – nothing fancy, just zooming in and clicking around. Took me a solid hour to pin down the spots ’cause I kept double-checking distances and street names. Made a mess with sticky notes all over.
Hitting the Streets for Real
Armed with that plan, I hopped on a train and landed in New York bright and early. My first stop was Times Square, and dang, it was packed. I walked straight to where I thought the subway should be, and bam – right there was the Times Sq–42 St station. Easy peasy, just like I found online. Took some pics to make sure.
Next, I dragged myself over to Central Park. The day was heating up, and I was sweating like crazy. Wandered over to 59th Street and saw the Columbus Circle entrance. The 59 St–Columbus Circle stop was staring at me, and I thought, “This is perfect – smack dab near the park.” Saved my legs big time.
Then, off to the Empire State Building. Took the subway down to Herald Square, hopped off at 34 St–Herald Sq, and walked like half a block. No fuss, just a quick stroll to the entrance. Felt smug ’cause I nailed that one.
Last up, the Statue of Liberty bit. This was trickier ’cause it’s not on the mainland, but I took the subway to South Ferry. Found the Whitehall St–South Ferry station after a bit of backtracking – almost got lost in the crowds – and it dumped me right at the ferry terminal. Worked like a charm for grabbing that boat ride.

Wrapping It All Up
All said and done, I spent the whole day testing this out, and it actually paid off. Here’s the short and sweet list of my top picks:
- Times Sq–42 St for Times Square
- 59 St–Columbus Circle for Central Park
- 34 St–Herald Sq for Empire State Building
- Whitehall St–South Ferry for the Statue of Liberty ferry
The whole thing saved me from wandering aimlessly, and now I always recommend this to friends. Just watch out for sudden rain – got soaked near the end, but hey, that’s New York for you!
