So this morning I was scrolling through hoops news and saw some folks confused about where those Ball brothers landed now. Figured since I’ve been tracking their careers since the Chino Hills days, I should actually sit down and map out where everyone’s playing. Pulled up my notes app to check their latest teams – gotta make sure I don’t mix things up.
Starting with Lonzo (that’s the oldest)
I remembered Lonzo was on the Bulls last time I checked. But when I searched his name, it still showed “Chicago Bulls” everywhere. Weird thing is I ain’t seen him play in forever. Dug deeper and realized – oh right, dude’s been injured since January 2022! Knee problems or something. So technically he’s still under contract with the Bulls, but he ain’t touching the court. Now onto LiAngelo (middle brother)
Honestly, this one tripped me up. Could’ve sworn I heard something about Charlotte recently. Searched and found old reports about him signing an Exhibit 10 deal with the Hornets in late 2022. But wait – after double-checking dates? Yeahhhh, he got waived like two weeks later. No NBA deal since then. Turns out he’s been overseas or in smaller leagues. Felt kinda silly mixing up those 2022 rumors with current stuff.
What I found out:
- Current team: Not in the NBA right now
- Recent history: Hornets cut him in October 2022
- Other leagues: Played in the G League/NBL stuff
Finally LaMelo (the youngest)
This one was straightforward. Dude’s definitely still balling for Charlotte. Saw some highlight clips from last season where he’s clearly wearing Hornets purple. Checked the Hornets’ official roster page just now – yep, listed as starting PG. Plus he got that fat rookie extension last year. So unless something wild happened overnight, he’s their franchise guy.
For Melo:
- Team: Charlotte Hornets, no doubt
- Role: Starting point guard when healthy
- Signed: Through like 2029 after that $200M+ deal
So yeah – one actually playing (LaMelo with Hornets), one technically rostered but injured forever (Lonzo with Bulls), and one out of the league (LiAngelo). Kinda wild how different their paths went after all that high school hype together. Makes you realize how tough the league really is.
