Yo so this week I was tearing my hair out trying to follow the Fijiana rugby ladies properly. Missed their last match entirely, felt like a total fake fan. Needed to fix this, no way around it.
Starting Point Was Rough
First thing? Figured I’d just hit up the usual big sports sites. Total flop. Typed “Fijiana rugby news” like five different ways – barely got scraps. Old match results, maybe one tiny preview article if I was super lucky. Felt like they were treating my girls like ghosts. Major league frustration.
Checked their official socials next. Instagram feed had cool pictures, yeah, but mostly training sessions and vibe shots. Awesome for feels, useless for actual match schedules or where to watch live. Scrolled back weeks, feeling like an archaeologist digging for info. Who has time for that?
Digging Deeper Like a Madman
Desperation kicked in. Started pounding “Fijiana rugby fan forum” into the search bar. Stumbled into this one forum… let’s just say it wasn’t shiny, but it saved my sanity. Real fans talking real news. Learned about:
- Local Fiji News Sites: Had to filter through a ton, found ONE decent one actually covering fixtures regularly. Looks like it was made in the 90s, but hey, it delivers.
- Niche Rugby Blogs: Found this one blog run by some dude obsessed with Pacific Island rugby. No frills, pure passion. Gets details the big guys ignore.
- Specific Rugby News Aggregators: Totally lucked out. One site actually has a section JUST for Pacific teams. Why didn’t I find this months ago?
Still felt patchy, though. Like chasing after a loose ball. Needed something to shove the news right into my face.
The Alert System Hack Job
Okay, brainwave time. Remembered email alerts exist. Went full nuclear:
- Subscribed to EVERYTHING: The legit Fiji news site? Yep. The niche rugby blog? Oh yeah. Even the slightly weird forum notifications? Signed right up.
- Turned on Platform Notifications: Found the social media accounts for the Fiji Rugby Union official feed and that good fan hub. Slammed that follow button AND turned on notifications. My phone was gonna blow up, but whatever.
- Dove into News App Settings: Dug into the settings of my regular news app. Found where you can add keywords. Typed in “Fijiana”, “Fiji Women’s Rugby”, and even tried “Fiji rugby women”. No idea if it’ll catch everything, but better than nothing.
Took maybe 30 minutes of furious clicking and typing, mostly just hoping it’d stick.
It’s Working… For Now
Been testing it this week. Phone’s buzzing way more. Got an email yesterday about squad selection for the next tour. Almost cried tears of joy. Just got a notification about broadcast info popping up in the news app feed.
Finally feeling like I’ve got a handle on it. Feels less like detective work and more like actually being a fan. Setup was a bit grindy, sure, but way better than refreshing sites every hour like a crazy person. I just chill now, wait for the pings. Huge relief.
