So today I finally got around to testing the legendary Suzuki Hayabusa’s top speed that everyone keeps hyping about. Grabbed my buddy Dave who’s a total bike nut and headed out to this looong stretch of empty highway we know – place where cops never show up.

Getting Everything Ready
First thing I did was prep the Hayabusa like my life depended on it. Checked:
- Brakes (twice!)
- Tire pressure
- Chain tension
- All fluids topped off
Strapped my GPS speedometer to the handlebars real tight. Shoved earplugs in and pulled on my full-face helmet – thank god I did this later when the wind screaming almost blew my ears off.
The First Speed Runs
Started easy with some warm-up runs at 100 mph. Bike felt smooth as butter. Gradually pushed harder:
- 130 mph – still chill
- 150 mph – bike hugging the road like glue
- 175 mph – started feeling some serious wind pushback
The acceleration made my stomach drop every time I twisted that throttle. Felt like being shot from a cannon!
Going For Broke
Tucked in super low behind the windscreen until my chin nearly touched the gas tank. Held my breath and pinned it. Saw the needle jump:

- 180 mph
- 190 mph
- 199 mph!
Suddenly the wind was screaming so loud I couldn’t hear my own thoughts. The road turned into this narrow blurry tunnel. Pulled back immediately – heart banging against my ribs like crazy. GPS confirmed it: legit 199 mph.
What I Learned
- This thing eats speed for breakfast – 100 mph feels like cruising
- Windscreen only helps until 150 – after that it’s war
- Tucking position is EVERYTHING at those speeds
- Power delivery stays buttery smooth even near top speed
Still can’t wrap my head around hitting basically 200 mph on two wheels. That “closed course” disclaimer everyone uses? Yeah, makes total sense now. Would I do it again? Hell no – my nerves can’t take it, but damn glad I did it once.
