So there I was, packing my golf bag around seven in the morning, still half-asleep but ready to tackle Kempsville Greens Golf course again. Been a minute since I last played it honestly.

The Drive Over

Threw the clubs in the trunk, grabbed an energy drink from the fridge, and hit the road. Traffic wasn’t bad – caught mostly green lights all the way. Made it to the clubhouse in like twenty-five minutes flat. Always a win when that happens.

Warming Up? More Like Falling Apart

Figured I’d loosen up first at the driving range. Paid for a bucket of balls, found a spot, and started whacking away. Felt good… for about three swings. Then reality slapped me. Shanks off to the right! Duck hooks left! Topped balls rolling maybe ten yards. Absolute disaster zone over here.

  • Driver: Couldn’t find the fairway if my life depended on it.
  • 5-Iron: Sweet spot felt like it shrunk to dime-size.
  • Pitching Wedge: Only club behaving… sometimes.

Balls were going everywhere. Seriously. Everywhere. Felt eyes on me but just kept hacking away. Didn’t matter at that point.

The Actual Round Disaster

Got paired with this older dude and his son. Nice guys. Shook hands, wished each other luck on the first tee. My luck disappeared on hole two. Sailed the green way long into some thick junk. Took four chops just to find the ball again. Bogey felt like a victory dance.

Hole five was a disaster. Water on the left? You know I found it. Lost two balls there. Was sweating buckets mentally and physically. Started muttering at my clubs like they could talk back.

Par 3 over water? Don’t ask. Plop. Right in the drink. Walked up to the green with my head down just hoping my playing partners didn’t see me blush.

The Unexpected Save

Got to the turn after nine holes feeling beat up. Stopped at the snack shack. Order? Double cheeseburger, large fries. Best decision all day. Sat there, scarfing it down under an umbrella as rain started spitting down. Grease on my fingers, problems forgotten. Suddenly the clubs didn’t seem so traitorous.

Wrapping Up The Mess

Played a few more holes in the drizzle. It was mostly sloppy putting and saving bogey putts. Called it quits on hole 14 as the rain got serious. Didn’t even sign the scorecard; that bad boy went straight in the trash where it belonged.

So yeah, Kempsville Greens Golf kicked my tail today. Practice range meltdown? Check. Lost balls? Double check. Rain cutting things short? Of course. Still… that burger hit the spot perfectly. Clubs are all rusty now though from the rain. Gonna need to clean ’em before next time. Someday. Maybe. Probably.
