So, I was looking into some baseball stuff the other day, and I stumbled upon the 2001 Seattle Mariners. Man, what a season they had! I mean, 116 wins? That’s just nuts. I did some digging to find out more about this crazy good team.
I started by checking out their overall record. 116 wins and only 46 losses. That’s a .716 winning percentage. I was blown away. I mean, I knew they were good, but that’s insane. I compared that to the 1927 New York Yankees, another team that people say is one of the best ever. They won 110 games, but in a shorter season. Still, the Mariners’ record is just mind-blowing.
Then I looked at how they got those wins. Turns out, 59 of their wins were by four or more runs! That’s a record. Some teams in 2022 and 2023 tried to beat it, but the 2001 Mariners are still the kings of blowouts. Also found out they scored the most runs in the league and let up the fewest. Talk about dominating on both sides of the ball.
After that, I dug into who was on the team. I saw some familiar names, some Hall of Famers. Edgar Martinez, Randy Johnson, Ken Griffey Jr. – these guys were legends! And their broadcaster, Dave Niehaus, was apparently a legend too. It must have been awesome to watch them play every day.

I also saw that the Mariners were unbeaten in 27 straight road series, thanks to a shutout by Freddy Garcia and three other pitchers. That’s amazing, even I can not believe this. They were just crushing everyone, home or away.
Honestly, looking back at the 2001 Mariners season is like reading a fairy tale. The numbers are so good, they almost don’t seem real. They were truly a special team, and it’s fun to see how dominant they were.
